USING AUGMENTED REALITY FOR READING TEXTS: Development of an Interactive Mobile Augmented Reality Application to augment real and physical books with virtual content and display they as texts

This paper presents the development of an interactive mobile augmented reality application to augment real and physical books with virtual content and display they as texts. Augmented reality (AR) refers to a technology that provides its users with an ability to sense the real-world while interacting with physical and virtual objects. The mobile use of this technology refers to the portability and usefulness of augmented reality application. Above all, subsequent developed cases as well as previous literatures that are related to the use of augmented reality to read books and texts. To achieve this aim, many research cases of developed augmented reality mobile applications according to the criteria of reading texts and artifacts were analysed to achieve a fundamental insight into the use of AR. Based on the case analysis, augmented reality has greatly changed different sectors related to human interaction with the environment as well as its educational effect on memory, interactivity, concentration, imagination, solving problems, affordance and reading comprehensions.
