Milestone for statutory health insurance patients: VenaZiel is the first provider in Germany to offer VenaSeal™ treatment via Mobil Krankenkasse

Modern, minimally invasive varicose vein treatment was long difficult to access for those with statutory health insurance. Together with Mobil Krankenkasse, GVN – GesundheitsVerbund Nord GmbH, and the medical technology company Medtronic, VenaZiel has implemented a pilot care contract that opens up access to treatment with the VenaSeal™ Closure System for eligible insured members. For many people with varicose veins, this is a significant step forward.

Key points at a glance:

  • What is new? Eligible members insured with Mobil Krankenkasse can take advantage of minimally invasive VenaSeal™ treatment as part of a pilot care contract.
  • For whom? Members of Mobil Krankenkasse with a venous disease requiring treatment – suitability in individual cases is always determined by a medical examination.
  • What is VenaSeal™? A modern procedure that closes diseased trunk veins with a medical tissue adhesive – without heat and without extensive anesthesia.
  • Why is this special? VenaZiel is the first care partner in Germany to open this path for statutory health insurance patients within the framework of this model.

A new approach to modern vein treatment

Varicose veins (varices) are far more than just a cosmetic issue. Left untreated, they can lead to a feeling of heaviness, swelling, and skin changes – even to a venous leg ulcer (ulcus cruris venosum).

Until now, however, proven modern procedures were often only open to privately insured patients or self-payers. This is exactly where the new pilot care contract comes in.

For around one million members of Mobil Krankenkasse [1], the starting situation is changing: eligible insured members can take advantage of VenaSeal™ treatment as part of this model. Whether the method is medically sensible and suitable in an individual case is always decided by an individual medical examination.

What is the VenaSeal™ Closure System?

VenaSeal™ is a modern, minimally invasive procedure for treating diseased trunk veins. A medical tissue adhesive is introduced via a small access point, which specifically closes the affected vein. The blood then finds its way through healthy veins.

For many patients, the gentle nature of the procedure is the decisive factor. The method has several special features that distinguish it from older procedures:

  • Without heat – no laser and no radiofrequency, therefore no heat-related irritation of the surrounding tissue.
  • Without tumescence – no extensive anesthetic fluid is required around the vein.
  • Gentle and suitable for everyday life – many patients can return to their daily routine quickly after the procedure.

It remains important: whether VenaSeal™ is the right procedure depends on the individual findings – including an ultrasound examination of the veins (duplex sonography).

📋 Clinical Notes

The VenaSeal™ Closure System (Medtronic) is based on the endovenous application of an n-butyl-2-cyanoacrylate adhesive for the non-thermal closure of insufficient trunk veins, typically the great saphenous vein. In contrast to thermal procedures (EVLA, RFA), perivenous tumescent anesthesia is not required; this eliminates the risk of thermal damage to adjacent structures, such as the saphenous nerve [2]. Routine post-interventional compression therapy is not strictly necessary due to the nature of the procedure. The indication is determined by duplex sonography following clinical classification (e.g., CEAP). Contraindications, concomitant findings, and individual suitability must be medically checked before every procedure.

Why this care contract is a milestone

The contract shows what becomes possible when service providers, payers, and industry work together on better care pathways.

For patients, it means one thing above all: faster access to modern medicine – in areas where previously often only older or more invasive procedures were regularly reimbursed.

VenaZiel is the first care partner in Germany to open this path for statutory health insurance patients within the framework of this model.

VenaZiel: Pioneer in minimally invasive vein medicine

VenaZiel is one of the leading centers for minimally invasive vein therapy in Germany and is recognized as a Medtronic observation center. This makes VenaZiel one of the pioneers when it comes to making modern vein medicine structurally more accessible.

The ambition behind it can be summarized in one sentence – the guiding principle of founder and Medical Director Dr. Hamidreza Mahoozi: “The doctor who builds systems.” In other words, medicine that not only treats but also creates structurally better access.

Treatment is provided at the VenaZiel locations in Berlin (Friedrichstraße and Charlottenstraße) as well as in Frankfurt am Main.

Who is eligible for the treatment?

In principle, the offer is aimed at eligible members of Mobil Krankenkasse with a venous disease requiring treatment.

Whether VenaSeal™ treatment is medically sensible and suitable in an individual case is clarified in a personal consultation with detailed diagnostics. This always includes an ultrasound examination of your veins.

This allows for an individual assessment of which procedure is the right path for your situation.

Frequently asked questions (FAQ)

Am I automatically eligible as a statutory health insurance patient?

The model is aimed at eligible members of Mobil Krankenkasse with a venous disease requiring treatment. Whether you are eligible in an individual case depends on both the requirements of the care contract and the medical findings. We will clarify this together during the consultation.

Does VenaSeal™ treatment hurt?

VenaSeal™ is a minimally invasive procedure that works without heat and without extensive anesthesia around the vein. Many patients find the procedure to be well-tolerated. How you personally experience the procedure can vary individually – your treatment team will discuss the process with you in advance.

Do I have to wear compression stockings after the treatment?

One advantage of the VenaSeal™ procedure is that routine compression therapy after the procedure is not strictly necessary due to the nature of the procedure [3]. Whether compression is nevertheless sensible in an individual case is decided by your doctor based on your individual findings.

How quickly will I be back to my daily routine?

Many patients can return to their daily routine quickly after the treatment. The exact course depends on the individual findings and the extent of the treatment. You will receive specific recommendations for your situation in a personal conversation.

For which varicose veins is VenaSeal™ suitable?

VenaSeal™ is used to treat diseased trunk veins. Whether the method is suitable for your veins can only be reliably assessed after an ultrasound examination (duplex sonography) and medical classification. In some cases, other procedures may be more sensible – we will discuss this with you individually.
